King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard
With the highly anticipated release of King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard’s 3rd full length album ‘Float Along/Fill Your Lungs’ it is expected that a string of shows to promote the release of the album should rip the gizzards from various live music venues across Australia. The follow up to Gizzard’s spaghetti western, ‘Eyes Like the Sky’, Float Along/Fill Your Lungs seems to have heavy psych and blues influences, although this remains to be confirmed as the surprise free show at Bar Open was the first time the general public had heard the album, which will be released in September.

Speaking of the Bar Open show, that shit was gnarly! I honestly thought the floor was going to collapse. Opened with the eclectic psychedelic drawling’s from Nick Allbrook of Pond, the room was packed from start to finish. Allbrook’s solo work is scratchy, disjointed and ethereally wonderful and will be the support for all of Gizzard’s Album preview shows, in which they play their new album in its entirety. Until the afternoon of August 21st Gizzard fans were under the impression that the only album shows were to be the 22nd 28th and 29th. Suddenly King Gizzard announced the free show and everyone in Melbourne (slight exaggeration) found themselves packed into the small upstairs of Bar Open covered in beer and rocking uncontrollably to the psychotic dealings of Stu, Joey, Ambrose, Eric, Michael, Lucas and Cook. Despite their obvious exhaustion, the Gizzard boys gave the crowd 5 extra songs from previous releases, leaving them covered in sweat, broken equipment and cigarette ash.

King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard took the night ‘Head On’ and I think its safe to say that they should only play shows in venues with clear structural integrity from now on!
